SMART IT People has a full-time opportunity for a Director of Mainframe Services with our client located in Germantown, MD. This is an onsite hybrid role requiring candidates to be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance. No visa sponsorship available.
Job Description
The Director of Mainframe Services is responsible for leading all aspects of operations of the mainframe infrastructure and technical team which support our client’s Mainframe DR environments. You possess a keen risk-oriented approach with a focus on resiliency and incident prevention. You also have a detailed understanding of mainframe technology along with related platform management experience such as hardware and software contracts, budgeting, and financial foresight.
Primary Qualifications
- You possess a keen risk-oriented approach with a focus on resiliency and incident prevention
- You also have a detailed understanding of mainframe technology along with related platform management experience such as hardware and software contracts, budgeting, and financial foresight
- 5+ years in Management / Leadership role in an IBM z/OS and z/VM environments
- Knowledge of Mainframe licensing, hardware and software contracts, consumption models, IBM billing, etc.
- Strong background in mainframe systems planning, design, and implementation
- Analytical, strategic, and problem-solving abilities
- Able to connect with senior leadership and business partners optimally
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills
Required Skills
A successful Director of Mainframe Services will have the following skills:
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and oversight to a mainframe technical team
- Able to support multiple priorities and goals in a fast-paced work environment
- Adapt quickly to changing priorities and targets.
- Exercise creativity to overcome roadblocks and challenges.
- Engage in budget activities along with contract governance for mainframe hardware, software, and statements of work
- Contribute to the short- and long-term strategic roadmaps for the mainframe platform
- Incident management leadership and presentation of root cause analysis
- Develop, improve, and present operational metrics and documentation
- Provide input and follow-through for continuous improvement to Mainframe processes and
procedures via RACIs.
- Present to senior leadership on mainframe programs
- Provide mentorship to operations team to improve service availability, scalability, security, and performance
- Evaluate, coordinate, and approve changes to the environment, with a focus on quality.
Education/Experience
- BA or BS or equivalent experience.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
